The Lamborghini Urus has Arrived
Do you remember when MINI released their 4x4? It was 100% MINI but it wasn't the same.
What MINI means is unique to the individual. Examples range from the Italian Job, scoring a parking space too small for ordinary cars etc..
Ordinary is a funny word because there's nothing ordinary with Lamborghini making an SUV. It's different but how different?
Well... are supercar makers losing their essence by diving into this market? Are Lamborghini and Maserati wrong to make 4x4s? Is Ferrari going to do the same? This is the question. Will the Urus (translates to raging bull) be the game changer?
What do Lamborghini Think of the Urus?
Stefano Domenicali, the former Ferrari F1 team principal, called the 'visionary' Urus a fitting example to their line of supercars.
Lamborghini claims it's the world's first 'Super-SUV'. This is becoming the norm after Rolls-Royce called their Cullinan a Super-Luxury SUV. You can read about it in our future blog post: Rolls-Royce Cullinan Review.
What Lamborghini claims is an SUV which is above its class to the extent it appears superhuman - or is this case a Super-Suv.
How fast is the Urus?
Lamborghini Urus Performance
The Urus has the performance stats to conquer any SUV in its league.
- 0-62 in 3.6s.
- 0-124 in 12.8s.
- 4.0L V8 twin-turbo engine.
- Top speed: 190mph.
- The four-wheel-drive Urus
- Cost: £165,000
Not bad, eh?
There's no doubting the Urus is a true Lamborghini. The design, performance and the emotion is there but something is missing.
What does the Urus promise?
Lamborghini Urus Design
A new bull indeed. 6 driving modes to make it a one-stop for all driving terrains.
- SABBIA - For sandy surfaces.
- CORSA - Maximum performance.
- TERRA - In off-road comfort, it promises comfort.
- STRADA - Comfortable and safe driving.
- NEVE - Supports driving on slippery surfaces.
- SPORT - Fun and agile driving.
Trivia - EGO mode enables you to tailor the car to your own needs e.g. suspension, traction etc.
Lamborghini has focused on the driving experience for the Urus and with this many driving modes, you can understand why it's a 'Super-SUV'.
The Urus debuts in the UK at spring.
Lamborghini hasn't sold their soul because the Urus fits with their vision but it's a step in a new direction.
Will Lamborghini set a trend in the Super-SUV market and put pressure on traditional competitors like Ferrari or Aston Martin?
Bentley has entered the market with their Bentayga (they claim it's the fastest SUV ever) so where is the market going? Time will tell.
