What is New York Fashion Week?
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) forms part of the 'big four' along with Milan, Paris and London and is widely known for its sportswear and high-end fashion shows.
In 2018, NYFW celebrated its 75th birthday and remains one of the oldest fashion shows on the calendar.
To put NYFW into figures, it's been estimated that over 125,000 people attend NYFW every year!
The likes of Vivienne Westwood, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs are often on the schedule which shows the significance NYFW has on the industry.
In this guide, you'll learn about what happens at NYFW and its iconic moments.
What's it Like at New York Fashion Week?
In our previous article: What Happens at Fashion Week? you received a brief insight into the event and what happens.
In short, it's nothing short of madness.
One of NYFW's most famous moments occurred in 1991 during a Michael Kors show. After turning on the base with Odyssey's 'Use it, where it out', it caused the ceiling to cave in!
Suzy Menkes and Anna Bayle would have repressed that fashion show but surprisingly, the show went on!
If the front stage is one thing, as you'd expect, it's not always rainbows backstage.
What Happens Backstage at Fashion Week?
Models everywhere, clothes everywhere, people everywhere and a show that needs to happen!

What's a Fashion Week Runway Show Like?
After the drama of backstage, it's time to put it behind you - literally.
The runway awaits and models are given the opportunity to promote the latest designs to the world and hoping they don't suffer a faux pas such as Naomi Campbell losing her feet on stage. She laughed it off though!

What's a Fashion Week Presentation?
A presentation will give you a closer look at the designs as the models will present them in a specific setting and attendees can get up and close.
They differ to runways because the model will come and go but here, you'll have less of a chance of missing something!

After New York Fashion Week, the show heads to London. There will be a different type of style here as each Fashion Week has their own theme.
