Hublot – You Don’t Have to Follow The Rules
Compared to other watchmakers, Hublot can be considered in their infancy. However, they are already rubbing shoulders with the established players such as Rolex, Patek, Vacheron, IWC and more.
How? Hublot is no stranger to defying convention.
Ever since their infamous debut at the 1980 Baselworld Watch Fair, they have continued to push the boundaries of innovation and creativity with some eye-catching pieces - or in this case, strap.
Carlo Crocco - The Visionary
Deciding to debut their first timepiece, The Gold Hublot, at the 1980 BaselWorld Fair was a huge challenge. Don't forget, this event is seen by the watchmaking industry and is itself a fantastic tool to gain attention.

Leading up to the event, gave Carlo Crocco, the founder, an intriguing idea. At the time, it was common for watches to have a leather or reptile skin strap. Crocco believed he needed something stronger and spent 3 years and $1m developing an innovative new rubber strap for the Gold Hublot.
The goal was to create a strap which didn’t crack or stain. The solution was combining steel and rubber. This offered the right strength and comfort.
Watch purists pointed out this design in outrage and denounced it almost immediately. However, the ingenuity of the watch made it a standout. Despite the outcry, the watch caught the attention of the King of Greece, Sweden, Spain and The Prince of Monaco.
Now that Hublot was making a name for themselves, their designs started to explore the idea of fusion.
The Art of Fusion
Fusion was the brainchild of Jean-Claude Biver, the Hublot CEO at the time. This dynamic approach to watchmaking entertained the idea of combining different things from pure gold to magnesium!
The end results? Visually stunning timepieces and all new watch collections.
Hublot's watch collections illustrate the philosophy of the Art of Fusion, innovation and their willingness to explore the new and bold. Here are some of their most notable collections.
